Compared to intravenous diuretics and hemodialysis based procedures, Aquapheresis is safer and more effective. In the UNLOAD clinical trial published in the February, 2007 Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Aquapheresis was compared to standard intravenous diuretic therapy in 200 hospitalized patients. In patients treated with Aquapheresis, the results indicated a 50% reduction in hospital readmissions in 90 days following discharge, and a 52% reduction in unscheduled emergency room and clinic visits during the same period.
