There are five million Americans with congestive heart failure and one million hospital admissions per year, representing annual expenditures of $30 billion –the most expensive diagnosis in the Medicare program. Due to the aging of the 80 million member “baby boomer” generation, these numbers are expected to double in the next twenty years.

For decades, the standard therapies for congestive heart failure and other fluid overload conditions were dietary restrictions, diuretics (water pills), and drugs to modify blood pressure and heart rates. Unfortunately, these measures are often inadequate, resulting in frequent readmissions and eventual kidney failure.
In 2002, the FDA cleared the Aquadex™ FlexFlow (www.chfsolutions.com) for inpatient and outpatient treatment of fluid overload in heart failure and other medical conditions. This medical treatment is called Aquapheresis.
